5 Fall Skincare Tips For African American Skin

As the temperatures start to drop, you may notice a difference in your skin. Fall weather brings about beautiful leaves, fabulous fashion, but also drier air which can result in changes in your skin’s moisture level.
Here are 5 tips to ensure your melanin maintains its glow this Fall.

#1 TURN DOWN HEAT

If you wash your face in the shower, switch to the sink. Washing your face in the shower could mean that you’re using higher water temperatures which dries out the skin. Cooler water temperatures combined with a gentle face wash and hygienic, silicone face cleansing brush will keep your skin’s glow throughout the Fall and Winter seasons.
Turn down the temps and turn up your glow with our Buttah Vibe Cleansing Kit.

#2 SWITCH TO A GENTLE FACE WASH

Due to the decreased amount of moisture in the air, our skin can start to feel dry and tight. Using harsh, foamy cleansers can further reduce the amount of moisture by stripping it of its oil-lipid layer, which locks water in our skin. Switch to a gentle cleanser that helps to maintain the skin’s pH and keeps your melanin glowing.

#3 USE A VITAMIN C SERUM

Cooler temperatures also means that your skin can look dull. Combat this with a high quality Vitamin C Serum. It works by helping to increase your skin's cell turnover rate, which is a fancy way of saying that it helps to remove dead skin cells that can make your skin look dull. Plus, it helps to promote an even complexion helping to reduce the appearance of dark spots on richer and more melanated skin tones.

#4 HEAVIER MOISTURIZER AT NIGHT

Sometimes your skin needs a bit of extra to lock in moisture at night. Using a moisturizer with a bit more weight like the Buttah Facial Shea Butter can help to lock in moisture on areas of your skin that are prone to dryness. Just warm it up in your hands and apply it under your eyes and around your mouth for extra moisture as you sleep.

#5 PRACTICE SELF-CARE

Self-care isn’t selfish! Fall and winter weather can give your skin and soul a beating. Take time every other weekend to pamper and reset your skin and mind with a detoxifying mask. It will help to draw out impurities that your normal cleanser can’t get to but also provides your skin with moisture. Being Black is already hard enough. It’s OK to treat yourself.

BONUS - USE A HUMIDIFIER

Turning on the heat in your home, can further reduce the amount of moisture available in the air making your skin feel tight and dry. Invest in a humidifier to maintain moisture in areas of your home that you spend the most time in like your bedroom.
